Lightroom 2.2 - Camera profiles

Now that the Camera Profiles are coming with the LR 2.2 installation, how can I get rid of the beta 1 and beta 2 profiles installed earlier?

Anyone knows the location where these are stored?

I'm running VISTA & can't find C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles. Somebody what to give me another hint?

I have a question about this also. I have read through the thread linked by Geoff, and the Adobe instructions. According to Adobe, the files are located here on a Mac:

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles

And to delete the beta files:

Delete the Adobe Standard beta 1 and Camera beta 1 folders to delete the "beta 1" profiles. Delete the Adobe Standard beta 2 and Camera beta 2 folders to delete the "beta 2" profiles.

When I go into the CameraProfiles folder, there are no beta sub-folders, just a .dat file. I've also searched my hard drives for the folders with no success.

Anyone else found this? If so what did you do?

Sorry people, I'll leave this to another as I am very busy.
On my Mac 1'.4.11 I see under Camera Profiles two folders: Adobe Standard and Camera. I the Standard is a list of profiles, one for each camera. In the Camera folder are folders for each camera.
I don't recall what I did when I deleted the old ones except following the instructions!!
Will check back later though.

Where are the new profiles installed on my computer?

On Mac OS X:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles

On Windows 2''' / XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles

On Windows Vista:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles

Brad, I see where the folders are supposed to be. All that's there though is a .dat file. There are no camera beta or standard beta folders anywhere on my system.

The beta profiles do show up in Lightroom though, along with the final profiles.

Hmm, I see what you mean, I'll have to leave that for a Mac person, I'm running Windows.

Edit: I did find a file, index.dat which seems to be a 'manifest' or inventory of all the camera profile files found at Lr runtime. It seems to be updated at every Lr start-up. Try looking at that dat file with a file snooper/text editor, to see if there's a clue to the profile locations.

On Windows, the profiles are of filetype *.dcp, assuming it's the same on Mac, just search your drives for that file type.

This is correct for the mac:

On Mac OS X:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles

it is not under your userid/Library/... where the .DAT file is located..

Yes. The answer is very similar to what happens if you were to delete the beta 1 profiles (see above).

Note that the Camera Profiles installer that ships with Camera Raw 5.2 and later will NOT delete existing beta 1 or beta 2 profiles (assuming you have beta 1 or beta 2 profiles in the first place). This is intentional. You may continue to use beta 1 and beta 2 profiles indefinitely, if you wish.

Let's say you now have these beta profiles installed. You've been using them to process your raw files. Now you install the final (i.e., non-beta) profiles. As noted above, the installer doesn't delete the older beta 1 or beta 2 profiles. So now you have both beta 1 and beta 2 profiles on your computer. If you open your existing images in Camera Raw or Lightroom, they will continue to use the beta profiles, since that's how the image settings (i.e., in the metadata) were saved. So far, so good.

But now what happens if you delete the beta profiles from your computer? Camera Raw and Lightroom will automatically switch to using the final profiles instead. So, for example, if you open those same images in CR 4.6, 5.1, 5.2, or LR 2.1, the colors for those images will be rendered using the release profiles.

I now have the final (non-beta) profiles and want to delete the older beta profiles. How do I do this?

Hi Kiwigeoff, or Brad, or Victoria, or any guru who has seen this:

I think I followed these directions explicitly in deleting all of the beta 2 profiles (after installing the Lr 2.2 update), and yet the beta 2 profile used in editing under Lr 2.1 still shows in the list of camera profiles available.

In fact, I can still click on the original profile at the top of this list (even though the profile no longer resides on my computer) and apply it to the file!

What gives? Is this to be expected?

What kind of file Tom? I just have a really vague recollection that the profiles are embedded into DNG files.

Yes, it is a dng file! So is the profile embedded there forever?

I don't care, really, just want to understand why I still see that particular one and not the others.

It's only kept that one as that one was applied to that file at some point and then the settings saved to the file, whereas the others weren't.

I haven't tested it, but just try setting a different profile, and then hitting Ctrl-S to write to the file, and see if that removes it. If it doesn't, I would worry about it! I believe it should only show up on the files which it's embedded into, not on all of them. There may be a way to strip out profiles - I'll see what I can find out.

I applied another profile, hit Ctrl/S to write to the file, reset the file to remove all edits, applied another profile, hit Ctrl/S to write to the file, closed down Lr, restarted Lr, and the beta 2 profile is still there after each of those test steps.

As I said, it doesn't really bother me that the profile still shows up on the list, but I would like to understand why...

I double checked - it's possible to remove the embedded profiles from a DNG file, no problem there, but there's no UI to do so at this point in time.

(System Drive-
usually C)/ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRAW/Camera Profiles

Does anyone know if just deleting the old .dcp files is okay?

You should just delete the .dcp files on the system drive. Not being a Vista user though, you may want to just test it first by moving them.

In windows Explorer go to Menu -> Tools -> Folder Options -> Display Tab and check "Show hidden files". This place is hidden by default...
