Lightroom 2.0 and Networked Storage

Hi,

I am about to buy a new setup. I am considering a Macbook Pro and a Drobo that I will access either through my Airport Extreme or Droboshare. My question is can i use the Drobo on the network to store my RAW files and still be able to edit them in Lightroom?

Yes you can, but no I wouldn't. The performance of LR depends a great deal on disk throughput, and hanging it on a network will likely choke that. There are reports of happy folks using Gigabit ethernet connections, but the happiest are using high-spec internal SATAs.

Yes you can and it will work just fine. I have all my RAW and working file stored on a shared NAS that is accessed by two computers. To make it work properly you have to have the catalogue and previews on your internal drive.

If you want to have quick and speedy access to your files then you have to have at least a gigabit ethernet connection. SATA is better but gigabit will be just fine.

My network runs off gigabit and I haven't noticed anything more than a barely discernable difference between internal stored images and over my network.
