Lately I have been having a problem transferring files from Lightroom 1.4 into Photoshop for further editing. If it transferred them at all, they wound up there as 4x6 jpgs instead of full size. No amount of effort would correct the problem. There were other problems, too.
Sunday I had a showing coming up and I really really needed to get some work done before the showing. So I thought if I'd reinstall Lightroom, make the updates, it would fix the problems I was having.
Not!
After the re-install, it wouldn't see anything! Nada! Zip!
It could not find the catalog at all. It wouldn't establish a new catalog. In other words, I was dead in the water!
So I decided the only thing left to do was to uninstall and re-install Lightroom 1 and proceed with the updates, and try again.
Worse and worst! Now it won't even import anything. Can't see any thumbnails, even straight out of the camera. Tells me the files are corrupted.
But I could see them perfectly well in CS3 Bridge!
Getting desperate to get ready for the showing I uninstalled Lightroom 1 and downloaded the great new Lightroom 2.
Wow! I thought; it found the catalog and updated it to Lightroom 2 without a hitch! And, sure enough, it performed very well for my showing and slide show.
But now when I try to see anything in Bridge, it is invisible. A white wall. It will tell me there are 216 files, of which 216 are hidden files. If I tell it to view hidden files, I still get a white wall.
Any suggestions? Why did Bridge work one minute, and five minutes after installing Lightroom 2, it is inoperable?
HELP!!!!! I really need to get all this working again!

weaverpix, Welcome to LR Forums. Sorry it's problems that are bringing you here. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything. You'll find some generalized troubleshooting steps in Tips/Tricks forum.

I expect some other members will be able to make a suggestion or two. They'll probably want some details about your setup. PC/Mac? OS versions? File formats? XMP?, etc.

Well, I've found a solution to one of the problems. I found that installing Lightroom 2 caused Bridge for some unknown reason to kick out of any workspace, so it wasn't seeing anything but a white wall. Last night I was trying everything I could think of and decided to change the workspace to default. That was when I discovered there was no workspace selected. By selecting a workspace, any workspace, it is back in working order.
Now, as to what happened to Lightroom 1, that's another can of worms!
I am using PC Vista.
I have 2 gigs of ram, (want more), two hard drives with the scratch disk on a separate one from the program.
Plenty of space on both hard drives.
Thanks for answering. If anybody else has any suggestions as to how I can solve the problems with Lightroom 1, it would be helpful. I don't want Lightroom 2 to come up empty! And I don't want to purchase Lightroom 2 if I can't figure out what's going on.

OK, some questions to get us started.

1) Transferring files from LR to PS. How did you normally do that? Using the Edit in PS command?

2) Reinstalled LR1.4, couldn't see anything. What exactly does that mean, what did you do, what steps did you take to find the existing catalog, or to create a new catalog.

3)Can't see any thumbnails straight out of the camera. Where were you looking to see thumbnails?

4) I don't understand what 'white wall' in Bridge means.

5) I'm not positive what you mean by 'workspace'. Do you mean the palette, panel, screen layout tool within Bridge/PS ?

I'm asking these questions, not because I doubt what you're saying, but because I'm having trouble getting a firm grip on what you're seeing at each step.

In the meantime, there's a standard set of troubleshooting steps, which were compiled by Victoria Bampton, back in the LR1.x days, located in the Tips/Tricks forum, here:

http://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/showthread.php?t=1645

You may want to give that a shot to see if you can get the 1.4 catalog going again.

Ok, it's late here, chaotic week.... can you just clarify where you are now with it, and where you'd like it to end up, and I'm sure we'll be able to get it sorted for you.
