I have just upgraded to Lightroom 1.3 and now cant open my catalogues!!

I get a message saying there was a problem reading one of the catalogues.and Lightroom will close.
The repair doesn't seem to work although before installing 1.3 I had no problem.

I have also tried loading a older backup catalogue with the same result.

Any idea's anyone.

Could you give us some details on machine and os

First thought would be to try allowing it to open a fresh catalog, and check you can import images in. If you can, try the import from catalog command to see if you can import from your old catalogs.

Sure Andrew,

I am using a twin intel processor 3.2G and XP pro service pack 2. I have tried deinstalling and reinstalling with no luck. I sometimes seem to be able top load a catlogue from my backup directory but on attempting to do anything the program says problem reading the catalogue and a message appears saying 2method not found:view attribute"
The system then locks and exits from Lightroom.

Mike.

Andrew,
Should also have said I have a 32'GB hard disc with 4GB RAM. Plenty of space on both drives.
Best to fill in your signature with the bits and pieces you use please,

Thanks for that Victoria....thought your suggestion of importing from catalogue may have worked but after trying a few manipulations I got the same message again and the program shut down!
It would be a real pain starting a new catalogue as I have keyworded everything so would take days as I have a lot of photo's. I have also tried to import older backups but am getting the same issue which is a major concern.

This is a knotty one.

I suggest de-installing 1.3 and re-installing 1.2. Once you've confirmed that works, back up all your catalogs then export them using 1.2. This may give you a temporary collection in the original catalog called "Missing Files" or something similar but you can check those to make sure they are actually there in the exported catalog. AFAIK, there isn't an easy way to get rid of the "Missing Files" temporary collection but you did backup the catalog in case things go wrong right?

Next, de-install 1.2 and install 1.3 and see if you can open and use the exported catalogs. So long as you can, remove the originals.
