Lightroom 1.3.1 won't read metadata from a jpg file

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here.

I import a jpg into Lightroom and add some metadata (Contact, Image, Copyright info). I then chose Metadata->Save Metadata to File. Lightroom updates the jpg file. If I look at the jpg file with Opanda IExif 2.3 I can see the metadata that I added. If I then choose Metadata->Read Metadata from File, Lightroom blows away the metadata and does not read the metadata in the jpg. Why?

The same set of operations work fine with nef files (except that sidecars are used).

Is it ALL jpegs or this particular one? Sounds like a bug to me - try updating the 1.4.1 though, as it may have been fixed since 1.3.1.

It is all JPEGs - at least all that I have tried. Interestingly, if I update the JPEG in another application and add GPS information, that does get read from the JPEG. It is just the other metadata that doesn't.

I'll try 1.4.1 and see if that helps.

1.4.1 didn't help. Save and then Read blows the information away.

I also checked Lightroom 2 Beta. The problem exists there, as well.

Bug is also in the released version of Lightroom 2.
