Lens Corrections is something I've left alone for the default settings to do their thing which they appear to have done quite well. However, I've recently had the need to look at it and found it confusing when looking back at older images (shot with the same camera). Ignoring Manual settings, mostly, the two boxes at the top are unchecked and at the info tab at the bottom it states, "Built-in Lens Profiles applied". All good! However, on other images, it doesn't state that but the two boxes are ticked and the lens information is shown. Is there a difference and why are they different?

Please post screenshots of the Lens Corrections panel so we can provide the most relevant answers.
These are three differing versions of the Lens Corrections panels that appear for various images all shot with the same camera. They are all processed in LrC in my usual way as each image requires.

"Built-in Lens Profile applied" means that the manufacturer has embedded a lens profile in the raw file along with instructions to LR to always apply the profile.

"Camera Settings" means that the manufacturer has embedded the lens profile in the raw but has included instructions for LR that the user should be allowed to disable the built-in profile.

Some manufacturers include different instructions for different lenses on the same camera.

Is the middle panel shot with the same lens as the the first and third?

I should have anticipated that question. I didn't check. At a guess, it likely was the same lens but without the TC.
I get what you are saying. The camera is making decisions based on the gear configuration.
I'll do a bit of testing.
