Hi,

I have an old Lightroom catalogue of about 37,000 photos and video that I would like to migrate across to the Cloud. I no longer use Lightroom and so there is no need for me to continue with the subscription. I find Apple Icloud Photos suit me (and my mac environment) perfectly especially when it comes to creating shared albums with my children.

I am using a Macbook Pro that is fast running out of space. I have the 2Tb package with Apple so it makes sense to me to make the move.

I would like to understand the best way to do this and which also preserve the metadata in the transfer across.

Kind regards
matt

Lightroom only manages images by reference, meaning they are stored in Folders on your computer. Just open the Apple Photos app and choose those folder on import. IIRC, there are options to store in iCloud and only retain thumbnails locally.

It should if you first use ‘Metadata - Save Metadata to Files’ in Lightroom.

Now there is a case where having an updated sidecar file with every raw file would help, right?
Sure, but you'd do it right then instead of doing it each time you make an edit. That would make backing up DNG files not a problem, since they'd only change that once.

Except that I don’t believe Apple Photos reads and honors XML files.
