I have created a web gallery from a collection that was setup, but I am getting a message that the gallery is 'capped'. The collection contains just over 5'' images. Does anyone know if there is a limit on creating web galleries for upload?

I know this is a large numberof images. They are just personal vacation pictures with the family that I was posting for others to view on my site.

I have tried to find references to this, but am coming up at a loss.

Thanks

Brent,

Not sure what gallery you're using, but if you open the gallerymaker.xml file in the gallery's folder, you'll want to find this line:

<ag:maximumGallerySize>5''</ag:maximumGallerySize>

Change the value and you should be set.

Good tip, Matthew, thanks!

I am using a flash gallery with a customized web template. I am not finding the gallerymaker.xml file in the 'Web Galleries' folder.

Do I need to first create a new 'web gallery' and then modify the .xml file?

The built in galleries are buried in the depths of the program itself though, aren't they Matthew? Maybe selecting it and then saving it as a User Template would allow you to reach the gallerymaker.xml file?

A very good point, Victoria. I hadn't thought of it.

If you're trying to edit one of Lightroom's default galleries, finding it is the first challenge. On the Mac, it's here:

Go to your Applications folder, right-click the Lightroom application and select "Show Package Contents". Open the Contents > Plugins folder. Right-click Web.agmodule and again select "Show Package Contents". Open folders Contents > Resources > galleries. You will see two folders; the HTML gallery is in the jardine_pro folder, and the Flash gallery is in the bluefire_gallery.

I'm not sure exactly how to get at the galleries on Windows, but I would suspect a similar location; you might need to show hidden folders and files.

Also, be sure to backup the galleries before making changes, just in case.

Cheers,

This is a very interesting bit of information. Thanks!

To edit the Flash gallery on a pc the following is required:

1) install a resource editor such as XN Resource Editor at http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d1'resourceeditor.htm

2) in the editor open the WebModule.agmodule file found in the directory C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.2

3) within the editor expand the XML directory to locate the gallerymaker.xml file (full path is XML\GALLERIES\BLUEFIRE_GALLERY\GALLERYMAKER.xml

I was able to change the element <ag:maximumGallerySize></ag:maximumGallerySize>. The default value is 5'' and I was able to increase to 1''' and them save the file. My Flash galleries are now limited to 1''' (hopefully I will never exceed this value :) )

Here's another question... It tells me I do not have access priveledges to change the file. I am using a mac. Since I am logged on as adminstrator, I don't see why I can't change it. I then clicked on "get info", updated all the priveledges to "Read and Write", and it still won't let me change it..... Aaaargh! Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Ok figured it out... If anybody has trouble modifying the gallerymaker.xml file, you have to make sure you have read/write privledges to the .xml file, plus the bluefire folder it resides in...

Another idea is to leave the buried gallery alone. If you copy the folder to into the Web Galleries folder, as with any third-party gallery, you can change the gallery identifier (set it to something unique) and keep a modified gallery with your changes alongside the original version. This should also prevent your having to redo the modifications following an update to Lightroom, as the Web Galleries folder is untouched by updates.

For Lightroom 2.x on the Mac the location of the file to edit is as stated below. Note that as you navigate along the path you'll periodically have to right+click and choose to Show Package Contents, then proceed into the Contents folder to continue. Continue your navigation to the galleryInfo.lrweb file then edit it. I set my new limit to 25'' for example. You'll need to shutdown and restart LR of course for the new capability to become available.

/Applications/Adobe Lightroom 2/PlubIns/Web.lrmodule/Resources/galleries/default_flash.lrwebengine/galleryInfo.lrweb

and the string you are looking for in there is:
maximumGallerySize = 5'',

Welcome aboard Sloblinx, great first post.

The reason the cap is there is because of the resources building such a large gallery consume. While changing it easy, making such a large gallery may not be.. I'm not sure I'd ever want to sit through 25'' of someone images :)
Although we did see over 3'' in 2'mins at the camera club once. Someone didn't edit their set and forced us through all the holiday snaps, including ones of his wife's lingerie!
