Laptop crash: LR reinstallation

Two days ago my laptop crashed and I have had to reinstall all software on my PC, including Lightroom. Fortunately I have backups of all my photos and LR catalogs. I still have Lightroom installed on a backup folder (made during reboot), but I cannot use it anymore and so I had to reinstall Lightroom.

I just wondered, do you have any tips to retrieve my old settings and preferences? Where are they stored? Can I copy some files to retrieve them? All tips welcome!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

So you've reinstalled Lightroom, correct?

Now you want to go find your preferences. Default location on XP is [systemdrive]/Documents and Settings/[your username]/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Presets/, so if you have a ghosted copy of your hard drive, you can just copy that whole Lightroom folder back across.

And then you want to open your catalog. It may think the files are missing if the file paths have changed, but just right click on the red folders and choose Find Missing Folder if it does.
