L1.4 Change Camera Serial Number?

I have two Canon 5D's, though I recently exchanged one with a different body.

Q: I want to change the serial number on the old images to the new s/n so these old images don't become 'orphan works' when sorting/processing.

I could not find this thread, if already discussed please refer me with link.

I'm not sure if LR hat a built-in functionality to change the camera serial number.

If not, an unsupported solution would be to update the catalog database directly. It's a SQLite file, so a free GUI can access the database and change it.

Welcome to the forums Swede. I dont see the point as a serial is a serial number and each body' altough very similar, perform slightly differently. Your serial numbers are the only way to tell them apart. Beside, for the purpose of sorting, it is easy to sort on camera model regardless of serial number. If I remember well, I think you also have an option to disregard camera's serial numbers in the configuration.

I'm pretty sure you can't change that in Lr. Lr pretty much leaves all the Exif data alone, with the exception of Capture Time/Date.

That said, if you feel compelled to change it, (and we know photographers are pretty stubborn about their wants ), I'd suggest an external program, such as Exiftool.
Exactly how, would depend on your filetype workflow.
