I have a catalog of about 60,000 images and the best exported to jpg. These jpegs are saved to an external hard drive that go with me and can be pulled at anytime, but I do not always want to have to open LRc to do so. I have recently started using PhotoMechanic to cull images and add keywords, and I can search these in Explorer (which I presume recognises words in the sidecar file). This would also be useful when the images are saved to my phone and I may be able to search for files in the same way.
So I thought I would try a similar thing with Lightroom - get LRc to write the metadata to file, but I cannot search in Explorer in the same way. Is there somethings else I need to be doing?

When you export a file from LrC, you can choose which metadata to include. If you choose to included keywords, then they will be in the image file header When searching in Windows Explorer, you can use the metadata keyword in the search field. Explorer will return every file that contains that keyword.
