keywords importing incorrectly

Hi everyone. No-one answered on the Adobe forums so thought I'd try here! I have imported a load of images which are fully keyworded etc. They all import fine and can be seen in the Library, but so can the keyword 'set' titles (such as 'Other Keywords') and also a load of '>' signs. They link two keywords together to make a keyword like 'arctic > polar' instead of 'arctic' and 'polar'. This may need to be sorted as the keywords display correctly elsewhere. Is this just me and have I caused it?

Hi Alex, welcome to the forum!

Which program are you importing the keywords from?

From memory, they need to be separated to / \ or . in order to import in their hierarchy, rather than arctic > polar that you're seeing.

You may find you can update the keyword separator in the other program and try again.

They were keyworded in Bridge (!) so I thought the transfer would be fairly simple. An example is:

aggression, aggressive, alert, beautiful, behavior, behaviour, caracal, carnivore, cat > phyla, color, colour, danger > predator, environment, hunt, hunting, life, light, mammal, natural, nature > nature, outdoor, predation, predator > predator, prey, social, survival, wild, wildlife

Have a look in Bridge Preferences - although I can't see a > as a hierarchical separator there either?

yeah it seems fairly strange. i've uninstalled Bridge as it was a trial, so can't check there. the files elsewhere seem to contain the keywords as they always were. It's just lightroom that's 'seeing' these false keywords. any ideas of anything I can try?
