Keywording Latin names as synonyms?

Hello,

I am cleaning up my animal and plant keywords in Lightroom as they've gotten to be such a mess! For those of you who use both Latin and common names in keywording plants and animals, do you use the synonym feature or are they explicit in your keyword hierarchy? I've seen them both ways and I more inclined to use the synonym approach in bold, below, but wanted to put this to the group before I spend time doing rework!

For example, as hierarchy:

Animal>Moose>Alces alces or Animal>Alces alces>Moose

For example, as synonym:

Animal>Moose (Alces alces) or Animal>Alces alces (Moose)

I would go with the synonym. Using the hierarchy implies that Moose is a subset of Alces alces, or v.v., which I don't think is what you want. As to which is the main name and which is the synonym, put whichever one you are more likely to use as the main name; when you have a bunch of them show up on the screen, they'll be in alpha order. If you normally think of looking for Moose, it would be easier if it's under 'M'. Cheers,

About your North American Mammal list. Great Apes? Is there a Sasquatch in there?
Does the list contain scientific synonyms?

I have a Cryptids list coming out on April 1st that will include Sasquatch.

Only for certain plant and animal families do I use binomial nomenclature. Sometimes I include it as a synonym, but I haven't been consistant. I have instead created a top level hierarchy named Taxon which I use as a catch-all container for all binomial names. Sometimes these (and again I have not been consistant) are cross-referenced with the common names as a synonym.
