I finally took the time to arrange my keywords into a hierarchy today. After doing that I noticed that almost everything needed to be republished to Smugmug, I use the LR SmugMug Publish service. I use keywords to for the publish service to determine which gallery a photo goes to on the web site.

Now to my question, I just noticed that if a keyword that is used to determine a gallery is under another keyword that determines a different gallery, the photo gets published to both galleries. I wasn't expecting this to happen, actually I never gave it a thought.

Is there some way to stop this from happening?

Thanks
Carson

Well, then different gallery keywords shouldn't be nested hierarcially under each other? Putting keyword B as a child under keyword A indicates that B "belongs" to A. If that's not what you want, then I guess both A and B should be on the same level in the hierarcy. Or you have to find some other way to distinguish different galleries from each other.

Maybe a screenshot of your hierarchy helps us understand what it is you are doing?

Short Answer: No if you have a Hierarchical Keyword list, assigning a child keyword assigns the parents too.

If you want to publish to different publish services with a Smart Publish Collection/album/folder. then you need to assign keywords that are siblings.

My Keyword list has a parent "@PublishService" with children

@PublishService
.....@500px
.....@AppleTV
.....@Facebook
.....@Flickr
.....@SmugMug

If I wish an image to go to Smugmug, it gets assigned '@SmugMug". If I wish an image to go to Smugmug AND Flickr, it gets assigned "@SmugMug" AND "@Flickr"
.....
