Keyword confusion

I have the following keyword strcuture:

keywordA
--keywordA1
--keywordA2

Now keywordA is set not to export and is used purely to group the keywords that sit beneath it.

Now when I edit via CTRL-E in Photoshop I can see all the keywords including keywordA, which should not have exported.

If I export the file and do not add it to the lightroom catalogue all works as expected but if I export and add it to the catalogue then I can still see keywardA in photoshop.

Am I missing something?

Hi Ian, never ran into this myself because I don't edit keywords in Photoshop. Just a thought have you got "Export keyords as Lightroom Hierarchy" turned on? It is on by default. Try toggling that off and see if it helps your situation.

Ian, I had started to reply that there is a big difference between the way data is handled between "Edit in CSx..." and exporting a file, so it's not surprising that PS does see metadata which is not exported. (Don't know whether that's correct or not, just not surprising.)

I was with you up until this:

Can you explain that in more detail.

Hi Brad,

I'll try to explain more clearly :)

If I export a file to a folder and do not import that new exported file into LR then when I edit it in Photoshop the keywords contain all the correct items, i.e. all the keywords set not to export are not there.

If on the other hand I export to a folder and then import that file into LR and then edit in Photoshop either by CTRL-E or opening directly from within Photoshop, then I can see all keywords including the ones that had been set to not export.

This is a problem when submitting files to a stock library as I end up with lots of meaningless keywords.

I have tried with "Export keyords as Lightroom Hierarchy" on and off, it makes no difference.

That's a forum loosely associated with the reference link I gave you above. There's a join-up process, but they're always seeking new members. Lots of detailed keywording and stock photography knowledge there.
