keeping metadata after export

I´m having some trouble in here: after processing the images in LR 2.2 and saving metadata (specially captions ans IPTC), I have to export the pictures to a local network, which renames the files (adds some numbers at the end of the filename - for instance, IMG_9925 becomes IMG_9925_778645). After the system renames them, all metadata is lost.

Do you know any way to TIE metadata to the file? In fact, what I think it´s needed is a way to create XMP for jpg, instead of writing metadata to the file name. Any tricks, any plugins?

Cuissi, welcome to the forums.
If you're exporting the images, none of that should have any effect. The metadata standards for JPG are well forumulated and generally respected between applications.

What may be happening is this. There is a difference between the way Lr stores metadata for its internal usage, with the Save Metadata (Ctrl-s) process, and how it writes the metadata during the export process. The Save Metadata usage is not as universally respected between applications, because it involves Adobe's open standard XMP.

Try exporting an image, and see if it meets your metadata interchange requirements. Make sure that the 'Minimize embedded Metadata' export option is not enabled. Do you see a difference between the metadata interchangeability between the two types, metadata saves, versus exports?

It may come down to the capability of your downstream application to interpret the XMP metadata.

What external software are you using to examine the metadata?

Unfortunately, beyond the single enable/disable switch in the Export dialog, I don't believe there's anything else you can do to affect this.
