Hi
Maybe i'm being an idiot here (I'm quite capable of that) but I have a couple of Thunderbolt drives and a monitor all connected via Apple thunderbolt cables. But my system report says that no Thunderbolt devices are connected. I know that USBC is the physical connector and than thunderbolt cables aren't just USBC. Just wondered if I've not got things connected up properly?

There are 4 TB4 ports on my Mac Studio. One is connecting to a TB port on a monitor Another is connected to a TB4 DAS and at least one other is connected to USB. I’ll need to check my settings when I get back to my Mac Studio and report.

I meant to post this too...

I had a look at my settings and even though I see 4 physical TB/USB ports, the report is 6. The monitor is on Bus 0. I can assume the Tamales Module 2 is my TB DAS on bus 1. TB/USB4 ports 2-5 reported no device connected. One of those ports is a USB-C second monitor which as a USB-C pass through to a USB C Hub. The USB Hub shows up on the USB Device list connected to a USB2.1 Hub.

OK. So I've swapped out all the cables for different TB4s and nothing is still showing on any of the TB buses.

What is connected to the other end of the TB cables? A USB device will not show up on the TB4 Tree.

What are you expecting to be mounted to the TB ports?

Note in my example I have a TB ports on my First monitor and a USB C port on the second monitor. Both are connected with TB4 cables to the TB4/USB4 ports. But only the TB3 monitor shows up on the TB Device tree. I Also have a USB C port DAS the is connected to one of the other TB4/USB4 ports but it does not show immediately. I expect it is somewhere on the USB Device tree.

This is how mine looks. I have a lot of devices connected through those docks, but System Information correctly lists only three devices on Thunderbolt/USB4 Bus 0 because those are the only devices that have actual Thunderbolt/USB4 interfaces. So that would be a question…which of your devices actually have a Thunderbolt/USB4 interface, not USB 3 or lower? Any connected devices that aren’t Thunderbolt should be listed under other System Information headings such as USB or Graphics/Displays.

…and a monitor all connected via Apple thunderbolt cables.

I have two displays that do not show up in this screen shot even though they’re connected through a Thunderbolt port. That’s because neither display is a true Thunderbolt display, and they aren’t USB displays either (they’re old!). But thankfully, USB-C supports what’s called an “alt mode” for carrying signals other than data, such as HDMI and DisplayPort video, so as long as I have the right adapter cable I can plug them into USB-C or Thunderbolt ports. My displays do show up in System Information, but not under Thunderbolt…they’re under the heading Graphics/Displays.

I looked up the BenQ PD 2705U shown in your System Settings screen shot. Its spec sheet says it has a lot of good and useful ports, but none of them is a Thunderbolt port so you shouldn’t expect it to show up under Thunderbolt in System Information. Look for it under Graphics/Displays.

If you connected your display using a Thunderbolt cable without using an HDMI or DisplayPort adapter, is it plugged into the USB-C upstream port on the display? If so, then according to the PD 2705U spec sheet, it’s talking to the Mac’s graphics hardware using DisplayPort alt mode through USB-C, not Thunderbolt. This also means you don’t have to connect the display with an expensive Thunderbolt cable, you could use a more affordable USB-C cable.
