jpegs and RAW next to each other

Somehow I have changed something because now when I import photos to my catalog, in Library Module it shows jpegs and raw (NEF because I have Nikon) next to each other. How do you stack this?

In preferences / import there is an option you can select 'Treat jpeg files next to RAW files as separate photos'

I tried that and unclicked it to not separate them....they are still next to each other.

A new batch indeed put the jpeg and RAW files together, although the one before still shows like two separate files. Anything I can do to change that or only possible before you import photos to Lightroom?

I think it's only possible to fix it at import time.

I have a few folders stuck like that as well, and if there's a workaround, I'd like to hear it.

can you not just delete the jpg files and leave the raw ?

Yeah, but then Lr complains that the 'sidecar' file is missing. You can ask it to ignore that, but the file type in Lr remains set at raw+JPG. That doesn't really hurt anything, but it annoys some people.

I deleted/removed that batch from Library Module, imported again from my camera but first changed preferences/import/treat jpeg files next to Raw.....Problem is solved now.

Mine are already off my camera. Im just going to go nuts and delete the jpegs on my drive without telling Lr! Too bad mate!

This is out of my old LR book:" whenever you do any kind of editing in LR, the XMP section in the header of a file( such as JPEG, TIFF, PSD, OR DNG)is updated automatically. Otherwise, an XMP sidecar file will be created and added alongside the images in the library folders."
Maybe an Adobe rep can explain this better.

Can you turn off the RAW/JPEG option on your camera and just shoot in RAW? Save yourself all this trouble.

Not quite sure if you understood my question (maybe it's my English...), but i'll try again: I know that info is stored in the xmp-file, but when LR uses jpeg's as sidecar-file, is info stored in these as well? Or do the jpeg's have other purposes when used as sidecar-files?

The XMP info for a JPEG would definitely be different than for a raw file. Thus, Lightroom is just telling you that there is a JPEG file associated with the raw you are working with and that's all. Except, as mentioned earlier, if you rename, move, delete etc the raw, the JPEG will follow along.

maybe what is required is an option in LR to remove the jpg and it's association to the RAW file so that we can clean up the removal of the jpg's if they are no longer required.
