JPEG/RAW question

Hi,
This may be really obvious, but I simply can't find an answer.
If I want to shoot RAW and JPEG and have my Preferences set to "treat JPEGS next to RAW as separate photos" (so that a JPEG and a RAW both file show up in the installer dialog box), is there some easy way to put all the JPEGS in one folder and all the RAW files in another? I know I can sit and check every other box but that's reeeeeealy slow :-\ .

Hi Stephanie!

Yes indeed! Go to your Folders panel on the left in Library Module and create a new folder for the images. Select the images in the Grid and then just drag them all over to the new folder. LR will warn you that they are about to be moved. Click on through and you will have them in a new folder.

Oh dear, I wasn't clear.....
What I want to do is separate at the point of import so that I can choose to put only JPEGS on my laptop (and put the RAW files on a portable hard drive). Sorry about using that catch-all "folders" :-(

In your Import Photos dialog, select the display option that shows name, date, etc. (Between the thumbnail and column views). CMD Click on the Details Bar and select TYPE. You can sort by type and select them all in a bundle with a click and then a shift click on the last one. Then go back and import the other type.

Rikk's solution works, but you need to know that you only get that opportunity if you import from disk, not from card. You can use import from disk to read from a card reader, but it won't pop up automatically.

[/quote]Lightroom does not care what folder these files live in. Only you care. And that may not be important. Like you I shoot RAW + JPEG in the camera. Prior to LR, I was importing and segregating the DNGs from the JPEGs. I tried to do that in LR too and found that it was a PIA to try to process. Now, I just aggregate everything by date (even images from two bodies. I like to review and cull based upon the camera processed image (JPEG). So what I have are several Smart Collections One is "Shot Today" another Is "Shot Today - JPEG" and a third is "Shot Today - DNG". I review the JPEGS and flag those that I want to cull as 'Rejected'. I then switch to the other collection and reject the Associated DNGs Once I have selected DNGs to 'Develop' I use that smart collection with the Develop module.
