Hi all. I am using Lightroom to help me try and organize some 3'+ years of photography work. I was an original Pixmantec user but never did use it much. Now I am going through my archives and could not imagine doing it without Lightroom. I am a long time photographer in the "autumn of my career". My younger wife is a successful makeup artist and I help with her career and do her promotion, marketing, and bookings. I also do some website design and webmastering and have had my own servers and been running websites since 1995. This allows me to be very particular about the photo work I do anymore and I prefer to work on my old images than take on jobs that are not fun, challenging or lucrative.

Going through and scanning all my slides and negatives is a major undertaking, but I really enjoy it. One of the great things about being a photographer is that "your work really is your life". Every time I open up a old folder of slides or negatives that I haven't looked through in many years it brings me back to that time in my life.

Lightroom has given me a great way to take old images that were never printed the way I felt they should be and make them look as I had always envisioned. I recently made a couple of big mistakes that made me crazy and cost me a lot of time but also forced me to learn more about the workings of the software. I still think that the image management is very confusing and blame that for a part of my recent mistakes, but I love most all the other features... even though most of them still have shortcomings that will hopefully be addressed in future versions.

Every day I learn something new and have found the Lightroom Forums to be a good source of information. I am sure that the knowledgeable users of the site can help me more and that in turn I might be able to help others as well.

I notice the site is heavy with Mac users.. I love Macs... they are beautiful elegant and loaded with features... but I use PC, mainly for financial reasons and because I like to build my own systems. I can build a PC for 2/3 the price of a similar Mac... might not be as pretty, or have all the widgets and beautiful interfaces but it gets the job done. I used Macs from 1996 - 2''1 and still have a old 533mghz G4 that I mainly use to check on browser compatibility when building websites... My best friend is a Mac-aholic so I am always up to date on all the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer... I may get another again someday. ;-)

Welcome John and thanks for your informative and interesting introduction. I look forward to your contributions here. Those of us who have been using LR for a while have actually not been using it for very long!! (It can seem like ages though!!)

Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, we will all grow together on it. I wish it had been around in my younger years. It is a great tool for photographers... I am certainly not one of those old-time photographers that pines for the "good ol' days" of film and working in the darkroom... no way! However Lightroom and film scans... now that is pretty cool

(It can seem like ages though!!)

Both in a good and bad way!;)

Maybe once the SDK is out some third party module or other could help with the Scanned Images in a way that raws don't need. Like adding Metadata not there, doing inversions, etc.
