Good day.

My 2012 Retina MBP is beginning to show its age and I am (still) looking for an upgrade.

I am currently using Lr CC Classic to edit along with a few plugins for my monochromatic conversions.

I was looking at purchasing a new MBP but am intrigued by the newest iPad Pros. I am trying to find out if this workflow would be possible :

  1. Import photos and do most of the editing on Lr Mobile on the iPad
  2. Have them sync through Adobe Cloud onto my desktop
  3. Use Adobe CC Classic to do the remainder of the work as well as the export for the client
Reason for me wanting to continue using Lr CC Classic is that my plugins do not work with the desktop version of Lr CC.

So would this work?

It is possible for my photos to sync through Adobe's Cloud and be open with Lr Classic?

Would the downloaded photos be integrated in my local Lr Catalog or do they live separately from the catalog?

MOST IMPORTANT : Do the photos need to live into the Cloud permanently or can I delete them from the cloud once they have downloaded on my desktop?

Providing you have enough storage space with the subscription, yes. You also need a fast connection because syncing is always via the cloud.

They would sync to your catalogue, and in Preferences / LRCC you can choose which folders. Just don't delete them in LRCC/iOS before they have arrived in your catalogue - LRCC still has no trash feature.

If you unsync the photos in LrClassic, the originals will be cleared from the cloud and space will be freed up.

Interesting.

So I could just wait for them to sync and then unsync them to remove them from the cloud? I don't need them to stay in the Cloud. I just need the cloud to transfer the files to Classic.

After they are in Classic, you can then back them up yourself - which you can't do while they're in the cloud. And if you delete some, then change your mind, you have the Recycle Bin or your backup.

Also consider that after unsyncing them in Classic, you can then sync them again. This time only a smart preview is uploaded, which doesn't take up cloud space but does allow you to edit the images on the iPad.
