is there a way to make the crop more fast?

Hi
i have just upgrade lightroom to 1.4.1
well works great

but in every version , i did notice that the crop is a little reactive, responding to stimuli

well when i try to move the crop area , it's slow
for the example if i keep pushed the arrow key -> for some seconds
the crop freezes and after some seconds appear in other zone of the area of the photo

moving with the mouse is slow and really poor reactive , seems drunk

i know there preference files have a lot of tweak ,is there one to speed up it?

ps. will the future version add a feature for left handed?
in short i move the mouse left , and instead to move right , the crop move versus left

thanks

You seem to have these problems every time you upgrade Giovanni!

Left handed version... er, put the mouse in your left hand instead?!? The crop is different to Photoshop - imagine you're moving the picture underneath the crop overlay and you'll be all set.

No, there's no performance tweak for a slowly reacting crop. Sounds like it's time to performance tweak your machine overall instead.

yes i understood
i use photoshop cs3
so i compare the speed of photoshop & lightroom
i mean i would like a crop tool fast and reacting like photoshop
but maybe it's impossible

thanks

Do you have multiple images selected in the filmstrip, and is AutoSync on? Crop is extremely slow with AutoSync and large numbers of images. Better to crop just one, then sync manually.

The only way I found to speed it up was simple, but expensive. A nice new fast processor makes just about everything in LR work much better.

I bought a new system with a quad core processor. Now the crop tool works very quickly. In fact, the extreme slowness of opening the develop window and then the crop tool on my old P4 system was one of the main reasons I bought my new computer. As you mention, sometimes it took quite a while, and when it did open, the response was slow.

Sadly, the only answer I found that worked was a system upgrade.

If you can't afford to "throw money at the problem", try this instead. Run as few other programs as you can while running lightroom. Defrag your drives, and try to have a minimum of 25% free space on them, preferably close to 5'%. Use the rest of the typical LR optimization tricks you'll find here.

However, if you open task manager and find that your CPU is maxing out at 1''% while the crop window is opening, then the answer is that it's working as hard as it can, and there's not much you can do but to upgrade.
