Is it possible to use Lightroom 2 with a NAS or file server?

I like to store my photos and other important files in a NAS/file server. Is it possible to use Lightroom 2 with an NAS/file server?

well... it depents.

Running LR(2) with network possiblities is... well not really possible without some hacks. (and no support ;-) )

But if you want to use LR + photo's on your local machine and store backups on a NAS or other network drive, that is no problem.

Just make your backups (not LR backups) with some software like allway sync or syncback.

I use a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ 4TB (X-RAID, 4 discs) to store my photos and work with them on LR2. It shows up like my (D) and (E) discs except by its volume name: Nas-'1-b9-8d. I have had no problems thus far. I run Lightroom on my C drive, not on the NAS.

So you should be able to keep your photos on the NAS (although be aware that it can be slow, depending on the connection speed), but your catalog should be on the local hard drive.
