Is it possible to get LR to display a list of files?

Is it possible to get LR to display a list of files within that folder without showing a thumbnail or the photo? Basically I want something that is similar to Windows' detailed view list feature.

No, not on its own. If you need that kind of listing outside of Lr, you could look at Tim Armes' Lr/Transporter.

And put in a Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form - that'd be a handy feature. iView has something similar.

Not a windows answer, but a work around on a Mac.

To print a list of all files in a folder on to paper or into a PDF.


in LR right click an image and show in finder, navigate to the containing folder and then just drag drop the folder on to:

Leopard
The the printer queue window (it is in Print & Fax preferences).
Tiger and earlier versions of OSX
The printer listed in Printer Setup Utility or the printer's window or on to the desktop printer.

Marc Rochkind, author of Image Ingester, has a LR viewer program. It might be able to provide the data you are seeking. You might want to have a look at his web site to see if one of his programs can help you.

Sid's "Show in Explorer" suggestion is the closer you can get.

Under Windows, to get a permanent listing:

1. Press Windows-R (or Start, Execute)
2. Type: cmd
3. Press Enter
4. Navigate to the folder you want
   • cd SubFolderName (to go down)
   • cd.. (to go up)
5. Type: dir > GiveItAFileName.txt (this will create the file)
   • Or type: dir /s > GiveItAFileName.txt (to include subdirs)
6. You can now look at or print that GiveItAFileName.txt file

Karenware has a program which I believe is called Directory Printer that is much more powerful than the DOS commands Denis suggested above, and its free. I use her Replicator program and its fantastic. If you want to work outside of LR, then I would suggest giving this a try. I suggested the above program because I thought you wanted to specifically pull data from the LR database.

I won't flog a dead horse here, not too much (English term) - if you have a collection set up, what is the bit of your workflow that needs a list of file names?
A client request?

Yes. Collections aren't physical... :|
I don't know if this works but I would try to print a contact sheet with cells so small that only the filenames appear (selecting that info to appear below images).
