While trying to decide what iPhone model to purchase, I tried to get real world info on the actual transfer speed of data in and out of the latest models via the USB C port using the iPhone files app.
I have just done a real world test.
The result was 511.11 Megabytes per second.
Test specifics.
Source. Samsung T9 external ssd.
Target. Internal folder on iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB.
Data Copied. 23GB.
Number of files. 371.
Time. 45 secs.
Genuine Thunderbolt Cable.
When travelling... I use the T9 to store my catalog and last 2 years images and back up (while travelling) to a small external WD 5TB drive.
I will now have the option to backup to my iPhone.
I have been looking for a small convenient device to back up cards in the field .... it looks like I have found the dream machine.
I will do a test copy from SD card to iPhone 16 Pro Max when I get a real world opportunity, to establish guide timings for copy from SD card to phone.
