Hi

Is there some kind of ”interference” between LR2 beta and LR 1.4.1?
After downloading the LR2 beta version strange things have occured: LR 1.4.1 has crashed
several times an nothing but deleting the preferencies file has helped. While looking my LR catalog
file I found LR2 (I presume) had made a new Previews.lrdata folder named ”Silvertone” in the same parent folder where I have the LR1.4.1 catalog. And also in the preferencies folder there was
a file named ”Silverstone”. Could this be the reason?
Now I have removed LR2 from my PC and LR1.4.1 works all right again.

Hope you can understand what I mean despite my bad english.

Gronlund, the two versions were designed to work side by side. My WinXP installation of both is working fine. I don't share actual photo files between the two versions tho'. In other words, I keep the RAW files for 1.4.1 in a separate folder tree from the RAW files for 2.'.

"Silvertone" was the development "codeword"/project name for the LR2 effort. So, yes, those Silvertone files/folders were created by LR2. That shouldn't have caused a problem, unless somehow they got jumbled in with the LR1.4.1 files.

So, the answer to your question is yes and no. LR2 shouldn't have interefered with LR1.4.1, but the evidence indicates that it did in your case.

Victoria runs several past LR versions (for compatability with her clients), as well as the LR2 beta. Altho' she's on a Mac, she may have something to add.

I've also had no problems, both in XP (for a couple weeks now) and Vista (just a few days so far).

However... I did put the catalogs in different directories. I'd suggest giving that a try, should you wish to experiment further.

Exactly my advice for this. THEy should run side by side but put the components it completely seperate sets of Folders/Directories.

Best not to write to xmp for the exact same referenced files. USe two sets, if you have to.

Thank You for Your answers and adwises.
When I downloaded LR2 beta, I did not specify the place for LR2 catalog, so Lr made it in it's
default location (C:\Doc.and sett\Username\My own\My pictures). But the LR2 preferencies file was in the same folder as the LR1.4.1 preferencies file (C:\Documents and settings\UsernameApplication data\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferencies). In my LR2catalog I used the same picture files from the same folders as in LR 1.4.1. And afterwards I noticed that
”Automatically write changes into XMP” was ON. May be these things caused my problems.

Nothing useful to add, I'm afraid! The Mac installations work completely different, so I've got numerous versions on here at the moment.

Interference LR's

On MAC (1'.5.2) there's no problem with the two versions installed. Directories are different and in "Images" under "user" directory. But of course avoid to use both at same time.. In any case I don't see advantage to work with two versions at same time.

I use this configuration since the beginning of beta LR2 version and it's fine allthough of course some little bugs remain in LR2, but nothing to do with LR1.4 !
