Hi All,

I've posted a feature request to Adobe and have included the detail below. Is anyone else interested in the same feature? If so which option would you prefer to see implemented?

Please let us know your opinion, and why not raise a feature request for your preferred option to help ensure it makes it into a later product release?

Thanks,
Matt

The Problem:
Currently the only way I have found to determine whether a photo has been assigned to any collection (and which ones it is in) is:
1) In Library module, right click on a photo
2) Hover over "Show in Collection" in the context menu
Result: The collections expand in a sub menu for the context menu

How would you like the feature to work?:
I can think of three ways to achieve this:

Option 1) View option (note: similar to Photoshop Elements)
Add a marker to indicate a collection has been applied to a photo (similar to the "Photo has keywords" marker), and display the list of collections when the mouse hovers over the new marker. This behaviour is similar to Photoshop Elements 6. Additionally you could add "Collections" to the compact or expanded cell options (in grid view) so the Collections could also be listed in the grid cell.
e.g.
1) Open grid view in the library model
Result: All photos in the view that have collections would show a marker to indicate collections are assigned. Dependent upon whether the View Option is added (and selected), the collections are listed in the cell as well

2) Hover the mouse over the "Collections are assigned" marker
Result: All collections assigned to the photo are displayed in a tool tip

Option 2) Metadata panel
Add a field to specify the collections currently assigned to the selected photo. e.g.
1) Select one (or more) photos in the Library grid
Result: The new field in the metadata panel lists all Collections assigned to the current panel

Option 3) Collections panel
Provide a way to change the Collection panel's mode so it swaps between showing all defined collections, and only the collections for the selected photo(s). The option could be presented in a way similar to the "Solo mode" or have a button/checkbox on the "Collections" panel heading. e.g.
1) Configure the Collection panel to be in "Show current collections" mode
2) Select one (or more) photos in the Library grid
Result: Only the collections to which the photos have been assigned are listed in the Collections panel

Why is this feature important to you?
Many workflows (e.g. The DAM Book - http://thedambook.com/) recommend using Collections for workflow status tracking, recording destinations where photos have been published, and other purposes.

Currently there is only one inefficient way to determine whether a photo has a collection assigned. This increases the chances that a photo will be missed - not processed, not uploaded to a website, etc - because of an issue or mistake when assigning the photo to collections. Adding this feature reduces the chances of that type of issue occuring. Even Photoshop Elements has had a more efficient workflow in this area for at least the last two versions.

Neat idea!

When I get time Matt!
