Importing Woes

Hello. My first posting. Great forum, btw.

I heard that LR 2.' has some issues with reading catalogs from 1.4.1 and earlier. The issue I'm having is with importing photos from my external drive. It asks me which folders to import and I give the main folder (I:\PHOTOS) containing all the subs (I:\PHOTOS\blah blah). What happens is a scan that takes hours and hours and hours (was sleeping), discovering it's importing millions of files. I don't even think I have a million files on that hard drive yet. what's up??

Hi gijoel, welcome to the forum!

Millions of files?!?! Bizarre! What ARE these files it's found? Does it get as far as the import dialog to show you which files it's importing?

There's probably a large mix of photos and thumbnails. Depending on what programs you've used in the past, there could be any amount of thumbnails.

for me it´s important, my workflow is all in an external hd and the catalogs in the same drive. when lr2 appears i´m thinking in create new catalogs and import all the files (1tb raw files). what is the best? create catalogs in computer hard drive or in external with the photos (my HD external is FW8'').

i have many catalogs with share photos with other catalogs, sometimes it´s a problem. But if new LR2 appears in a future the option "export to other catalog" very amazing no?
