Hi, I'm new to lightroom (v. 2.5, on a Mac, Canon T1i camera) and I can't figure out or find answers to 2 things that make me want to take a hammer to my screen. I've spent hours now trying to figure this out, and I'm stuck, stuck, stuck. 2' hours learning so far, and about 5 trying to fix these 2 things >
1. Importing: when I import from a mem card, it automatically adds some keywords (despite the keyword list being blank on the import screen). I went through the "learning visually" book, and I think I probably did something somewhere in some permanent preferences or a preset to inadvertently add certain keywords to every import (words like "thanksgiving" "Florida", etc, that were relevant to the files that I was using to train with). But I can't figure out how to stop it? I've tried to check places that I might have preferences, but I am not having any luck whatsoever. Does anyone know what menu steps I should try to find this preset/preference?
-Also, every picture is imported at a 3 star rating by default...can I change that, too, so that they aren't imported with any stars?
2. Moving files: I shoot with canon T1i. I shot with mostly .jpg on my first trip with it, but certain photos I took with the "Raw + .JPG" for file format. I imported about 1''' picture files all from one mem card, 75 of which were the "cr2+.jpg", and now I can't move those files to other folders (all of the .jpg only have no problems whatsoever). they are stored with one thumbnail, and say ".cr2+.jpeg". it seems to be saved as a single file? If I try to move the cr2+.jpg files to another folder, I get "Unknown error" and then there's a ? sign in the upper right of the thumbnail on the grid, and it says the original file can't be found.
so:
a. how do I fix this so that I can move the file (If the file is RAW only, I can move it, it only does this to the "cr2+raw" files), and also how do I separate the Raw file from the jpeg?
b. Should I have been importing my photos to convert to .dng?, and if so, what about the .jpeg files? Should I convert those, too (I'd rather have LR import my .jpgs as .jpgs and my Raw as .dng, but is that possible on a mixed memory card?
Thank you!
