Importing into Folders

I use a subject hierarchy. As an example a top (parent) folder is Horticulture with children folders by plant name -- Hosta. When I import a photo of a hosta LR will not put it into the Hosta child-folder but makes a new parent folder titled Hosta. What am I doing wrong that causes this to happen?

Tell us what you set your Import dialog box to line by line. This will help most.
Also pay particular attention to the first lines where you can check an input box to create a new folder on the fly...

In the process of telling you the setting in my Import dialog box I figured out what was happening. Because I was importing from my hard disk I was choosing "Import photos at their current location," which gave me no further choices. Since you needed to know my settings I figured I should try "Copy photos to a new location and import." I did that and also found that I should choose "Organize: By Original Folders." It worked! Thanks for sending me in the right direction.
