Importing from Iphoto

Hello,

I have an understanding problem. I just installed Lightroom and want to import my pictures from my hardrive. Before I managed my pictures with iphoto. So the question is how to import them as I can not access the iphoto folder. Usually I need to right click on the folder to see the package content. But what do i do in this case?

Hi Oliver, welcome to the forum!

Are you hoping to continue using iPhoto as well, or switch to Lightroom entirely?

I never figured out how to access the iphoto contents from other applications including LR2.

I just decided to save all my pictures in a subfolder under the Picture folder.

But then again, I never really cared for iphoto too much

The easiest way -- assuming you don't have an unmanageable number of photos -- is to simply drag-and-drop them from iPhoto to LR. I don't believe this imports any keywords, descriptions, etc. you might have assigned in iPhoto. To do that, you need to export the photos from iPhoto, then import the exports into LR.

Well I am not sure if I want to keep Iphoto. I have just started with LR. It might not make any sense too keep Iphoto I guess as LR does at least everything what Iphoto does???

I thought just to import the Iphoto library but keep it where it is until I have deceided. But I didn't find a way to import the iphoto library through LR as LR doesn't give me the option to open it. As far as I understood I would have to open the iphoto library manually (show package content) and copy all pictures in another subfolder of "pictures" and import this new folder through lightroom??? This means that I would have all my pics doubled on my HD only still to use iphoto, which I think is not really clever isn't it?

Not ideal, but it might be ok temporarily while you fall in love with LR. Once you have, you'll switch entirely.
