Importing catalogs created in 1.3.1 into 1.4.1

Will 1.4.1 import catalogs created in 1.3.1 without problem? I want to upgrade to 1.4.1 and believe the installation process will successfully convert the default LR catalog into the newer version. I am just not certain that I will be able to open the *.lrcat file that was created for specific catalogs with 1.3.1 after I have installed 1.4.1. Can someone provide a reasuring answer to this question?

All the catalogs will be able to be converted. The first time you open each catalog with the new installation you will be asked to upgrade it.
My advice - MAKE COPIES OF ALL YOUR CATALOGS FIRST

There is no conversion between 1.3.1 and 1.4.1. The catalog format didn't change, and you can go backwards again without problem. But I'd still agree with Geoff's backup recommendation.

Sorry I couldn't recall when catalog changes were made!! I hopefully conveyed the message to make sure that copies are made first!!:lol::lol:

Thanks Kiwi and VB. I have upgraded Picasa before and ran into some unexpected problems. My reason for delay is that I didn't want to have any similar problems when upgrading Lightroom. You have reassured me!

A different question that one of you may be able to answer - how can I load the green box with the "M" in the middle as my avatar?

Steve, Welcome. Yes, as Denis says, the 'Member' badges are automatic based on post count. For the first couple of posts, it's basically blank.

The others are assigned/awarded based on various criteria, principally dealing with demonstrated value to this forum and the Lr community in general.
