Importing Catalog with its Previews

I'm considering a workflow where I import travel photos into MacBook Pro with a temporary catalog, following Julianne Konst's excellent tutorial.

One thing which seems missing is whether previews will be imported. I like to build both 1:1 previews and Smart Previews in my master catalog, to both speed up viewing and Lr Mobile upload. Building 1:1 previews takes a lot of time so importing them as well as metadata when merging the travel catalog back into master would be great. Yet in Julianne's video, it looks like you see oily the Original Photo for the images in the master catalog after import.

Can LR import both metadata and previews from one catalog to another?
