Importing Back Into an Exisiting Folder

Hi

How do I re-import a raw pic into an existing folder in my LR catalog? I meant to delete a virtual copy but I deleted 2 copies instead. I have the original RAW files in my C drive but when I tried to re-import that raw file back into this folder, I could not find that file and appeared in the Previous Import section in LR.

This sentence is the problem. If the file is on your C: drive, then you need to find it. Once you find it, importing should be easy.

There's really very little else I can do to help you find files on your computer. Wild guess: look in the trash can

If you find and restore the missing file from the "Recycle Bin", you can then go into LR and resync that folder:
After the file is restored, Right click on the folder in the Folder Panel. Ehen from the Context Menu, Choose "Synchronize Folder..."

Sorry, maybe I should rephrase.

I still have the raw file in my local drive.

Maybe a slightly longer explanation will help.

I imported an entire shoot of an outing (Folder called Wollongong) with family and friends. I made all PPs and exported into jpg to my smugmug gallery.

I then went into LR to create a VC and when I needed to delete the VC, I accidently deleted that RAW file from the catalog.

When I re-imported just that raw file, I could not find that file in the Wollongong folder in LR. I could see all my other RAW files in the Wollongong folder in the catalog but not the one I re-imported. I did see it listed in the Prvious Import section in LR.

A couple of things come to mind. First, is there a question mark on this photo (indicating it is disconnected from the Lightroom Catalog)? If not, then your problem is solved. Go to the metadata panel, and the location of that photo will be shown.

Next, depending on how you did the import, you may have set the Lightroom import settings to move your originals to a different location when they are imported. You might want to adjust that setting.

There is no question mark at all. I don;t even see the file in LR.

My orginal RAW file is still where it is on my c drive. I create folder in C drive, then import contents of the folder in LR leaving the originals in it's original spot. I have no issues of the whereabout of that particular raw file. It's importing back to the catalog so that this file will appear with the rest of my Wollongong RAWs.

I'll give it another shot later tonight.

Then I can't figure out, from your writing, what you are trying to say. In fact, this quoted sentence (above) contradicts your earlier statement "I did see it listed in the Prvious Import section in LR."

Either you see it in Lightroom, or you don't, and I can't tell which.

You don't see it in LR because you REMOVED it from the catalog. You can import it again in the same way you import any file without moving it from its present location, but you have lost the editing.

Reimporting is not the best thing to do. You can bring it back with all lightroom's adjustment. Simply select from the file menu "Import from Catalog" and navigate to your most recent backup. Select none then only that one. This, assuming you had a backup...

When I started this thread, I just came back from a business trip and my brain was 'shot'. Now looking at my explanation, I know where my brain was..sorry.

I'll have another crack at this tonight.
