Importing and metadata

It may be a silly question, and I assume I'm a little bit lazzy to do a reasonable search. So, let me expose my situation and what I think it's the way to go.

I work with a MacBook Pro as the only computer. At home it's connected to a external HD (2TB RAID1) where are all the photos, catalogues, backups, ... The only thing that's on the laptop is the Lightroom program.

When traveling I open a new catalogue in the MBP HD and put photos there. If I classify them, organize with metadata and keywords, develope them, ... and want to preserve all that work I supose that the way to go is export this new catalogue as a catalogue. And then, import the catalogue in the main catalogue in the RAID1.

I'm right ???

[/quote]I know the @TB is RAID1, but why do you have backups stored on the external HD along with the files they are supposedly backing up? Where is the local HD on the Mac Backed up?

For me it would be simpler to keep one catalog on the local HD and back that up to the External HD as a part of my normal laptop backup policy. That way, whenever the MBP is portable, you are still writing to the primary catalog. The External HD can be used to store non current masters and as a redundant back-up of your local HD.

Hi clee,

The local HD in the MBP is 25' Gb, and my amount of photos is bigger than this. So, they are in the external RAID1.
But, if i'm not wrong, I understand that you suggest to keep the Catalogue in the local HD and back it up to the external HD.
This way, when traveling, I'll be adding new photos to the catalogue and, when back home, I move them to the RAID1, and have no need to import and export catalogues. I'm right ??
