Hi all,

Just found his forum and I'm hopeful I am in the right place! I am using LR 1 (yet to upgrade) on an iMac with Nikon cameras. I am happy doing my general importing from CF card: the images are put into the pictures folder into a folder named '2''8' in subfolders like ''8'9'2 Sunsets' or similar. At the same time they are imported into LR as a subfolder of the top level folder which is '2''8'

I have other images from 2''6 and 2''7 on an external hard drive that I wish to import into LR. My problem is in setting up a top level folder for 2''6 or 2''7. I can import the images but they all end up as subfolders under the '2''8' top level folder. Does that make any sense?

I sometimes get a dialogue box where the box is ticked for placing as sub folder to the 2''8 top folder and I cannot untick the option.

Can anyone explain, in very simple terms as I am a bit of a computer dunce, how to rectify this?? Apologies if this has been covered before . I did a quick check of the forums but did not find an answer.

Thanks in anticipation

Andy

Welcome to Lightroom Forums!

I'm looking at LR2 at the moment, but 1.x should be very similar.

There are two ways to do this:
(1) In Lightroom's Import dialog, next to the "Copy to:" line, there is a button labeled "Choose..." Click that, and then click "New Folder" in the lower left of the dialog box to create your 2''7 or 2''6 folder.

(2) Outside of Lightroom, in the Finder, create your 2''6 and 2''7 folders and put your files in there. Then in Lightroom's Import dialog, set File Handling to "Add photos to catalog without moving."

Again, LR1 might have slightly different text, but it's conceptually the same.
