Imported Photos

Hello,

I have made a mess of importing a folder of photos and I don't know what to do.

When I down imported the folder, in the file handling area I used the "Move photos to a new location and add to catalog". Then the downloader program formated my CF card before I could stop it.

I want to work with the photos and I tried editing them in Photoshop, but I am getting this error message " Lightroom is unable to open any of the selected imges for editing".

I am thinking that the originals don't exist since I moved the original files instead of copying them. And I don't have a back up because my CF card was wiped.

How can I work with my photos?

Well, first, that's how a computer interpets 'move': copy to a new location, and then delete the original. That's pretty much the common sense definition as well, if you move something, you no longer expect to find it where it used to be. Generally, when working with data, a better method is to copy first, verify successful copy, then delete the original. I know that advice is a little late, sorry.

However, this by itself shouldn't have caused data loss. Lightroom should be able to access the original images at the 'move to' location.

Can you tell us a little more detail about exactly what you did? You imported by 'moving' from the camera/flash card, to a hard drive folder? What folder?

I use a card reader and I loaded the photos in to my "My Pictures" folder, a folder is there with the correct date, (thats how I load them and then rename them later) but it's empty.

Can you do a search using Explorer, for that particular filename, and see if it's somewhere else on your computer? Have you checked the recycle bin?

Don't reuse the CF card until you find them as they should still be recoverable from it if not used.....
