Imported photos and it made duplicates of (almost) every photo...

First time LR user here. I clicked file > import photos from disk and just left all the default settings in the import box. I then chose my entire "my pictures" folder which contained about 2,''' photos.

When LR generated the thumbnails in the library I notices almost every photo had a duplicate. I then went into my my pictures folder on my drive and it did in fact duplicate almost every photo. I don't know why some and not others but I'd say it duplicated about 9'% of them. The duplicates are the same size and dimension, they just have a little different filename; like 123.jpg and 123-1.jpg.

You probably used the Lightroom Import setting that instructed the software to move your photos to a directory where the photos already existed.

In that case, you just need to import from that directory, and select the Lightroom Import option that says do not move the photos, import them from exactly where they are.

Thank you; yes that does sound like what I did. Is there any way through LR to delete all those duplicates I created?

If there isn't an option in LR, you could try opening the folder and sorting the images through 'date modified'. That might separate the two copies of each image.

There isn't a setting in LR to stop it from making copies and you can't rearrange the photos by date modified.....Any other suggestions?
