Lightroom Classic 10.3, Windows 10.
I keep my main catalogue on my home computer. When I travel, I create a new catalogue on my laptop (also Windows 10), import all my then-existing keywords from my main catalogue, then add my new travel photos and new keywords, often place names, into the new catalogue as I go along. I set up the catalogue and add the photos in a file structure in such a way that on my return, I can copy over the images from my laptop into my main catalogue, together with the new travel catalogue (to maintain the same relative locations of the images compared to the catalogue). I then use "Import from another catalogue" on my main computer to import the new images in place, adding them to my main catalogue. I then delete the travel catalogue and its associated files.
I have been doing exactly this for years, with no issues. On the latest occasion, however, I am having problems with my new imported keywords. The new keywords from the travel catalogue are in my main catalogue keyword list (typing them into the filter box at the top of the Keyword List section reveals them in the list of keywords, as normal), but they are not autocompleting in the top Keyword Tags box to enter keywords.
To give an example, I visited Bamburgh and Bamburgh Castle, resulting in two corresponding new keywords in my laptop travel catalogue, now imported into my main catalogue. In my main catalogue, I type in "bambu" in the Keyword List filter, and sure enough, both Bamburgh and Bamburgh Castle are picked out in the keyword list, where they should be in my keyword hierarchy. But if I start typing "Bamburgh" in the "Click here to add keywords" field in the top Keyword Tags box, it stops after "bamb" (having up to that point autocompleted to "bamboo", which is a long-standing keyword in my main catalogue): getting as far as "bambu" does not pick out anything for keyword entry.
Does anyone know why keywords which are in the Keyword List (regular keywords, no synonyms) originating from the imported travel catalogue are not being picked up when typing in the Keyword Tags box of my main catalogue, to try to add them to an image? It is not just this pair, there are others which are failing in the same way.
I do not know when this behaviour started. The previous occasion on which I created and then imported a new laptop catalogue from travel was in September 2020, when I would have used whatever version of Lightroom was then current: there are no issues with new keywords created on my travel catalogue from that trip which was imported into my main catalogue at that time. The new keywords from my latest travel catalogue exist in the main Lightroom catalogue after import, as any others do: as a test, I exported the latest keywords from my main Lightroom catalogue and imported them into Photo Mechanic, in which the keywords originating from my laptop travel catalogue showed up in exactly the same way as other keywords.
Is this a new bug in the Library, introduced since September 2020? Any comments appreciated, particularly if anyone has a solution to allow the newly added keywords to be recognised in the Keyword Tags "click here to add keywords" field. As thing stand, if I want to add any of the newly imported keywords into an image in my main catalogue, I would have to select it in the Keyword List and manually tick it, which is obviously hopelessly inefficient.
