I like being able to insert a CFexpress card into my reader and have Lightroom Classic open to import. Would prefer I could set CF and SD separately. but I cannot seem to find a way in Windows 10.

BUT, the import opens to EOS_Digital (E:)\DCIM instead of the folder with images, E:\DCIM\100EOSR3. How can I set that as the default as it is ALWAYS the desired folder?

Thanks.

You can't set import source defaults. Import presets only store destination defaults.

Brilliant. Works exactly as I would like.

Gotta mention again. Whe I post and follow a thread, I get an email only for the first reply. Never again. if i had not looked for it, would have not seen your post Johan.

I get many but not all replies. I've always assumed that I get the first reply of each day, or something like that. So I've learned to come back to the forum and look for notifications in the upper-left corner.

I get the sense that the auto reply is triggered by hitting the link to the discussion on the previous email. It would be useful to have this confirmed.

I don’t want emails, so I disabled that.
Same here. I simply use the "What's New" and/or "New Posts" filters on the web-site. "What's New" displays all posts, most recent first, but differentiates between read and unread, so it's easy to see which posts I've not yet read. "New Posts" displays all unread posts.

OK, time to add to and update my import questions:

Let's see if I can properly describe this question:

Last few months been playing with develop defaults and default import settings. I may have gotten myself into the weeds here and created a preset with my chosen settings and use that preset as the global import and in my saved default import. Perhaps I did not have to get that complicated.

Two things that have complicated my chosen workflow is I sometimes want SOOC jpgs and I found, that for me, I am most pleased with AUTO for the in camera profile settings. BUT, this confuses Lightroom on import if I choose Camera Profile in the Develop profile choice.

So, make sense?

I would like to try (and I wish there were a way to try complex settings and revert to previously saved for develop and import and defaults so I can tinker - and maybe there is I have not found? But my goal ...

1. Not change anything about any previously imported and / or developed image
2. Try Camera Settings for Global Default import even with camera internal profile being set to auto
3. Reset develop module defaults to my choice of defaults - ALT/RESET does not change the RESET button to reset defaults in develop module.
4. Delete the need for import to use a preset to get to this goaal especially when the preset forces me to choose a develop profile

The trickiest might be how the develop profile works or doesn't with camera profile AUTO and in which case I feel Camera Faithful might be my closest best starting place.

So, why is ALT / RESET not working for me and what else might you comment before I dive in?

Thanks.

OK, played a lot today. Read the book, Googled :) Cannot find how to change the default develop properties without creating a new preset.

Could swear it was ALT / Reset in the develop panel but not there.

Let's assume I take Adobe defaults. All I want to change is the amount of default sharpening globally for every image imported. How do I do that or am I forced to create a Useer Develop Preset?

And, BTW, it "appears" so far that if I shoot Profile AUTO in camera, the Camera Setting choice in Develop selects Camera Standard. Will have to try move photos to know for sure.

OK, found a good article by Scott Kelby that explained all these default develop changes and removal of the Restting Defaults, etc.

I "think" I got it - to change something like sharpening amount LRc needs a preset which then could be the default. And that preset could be based on Adobe Default, with Camera Setting per camera instead of Adobe Color and Lens Correction and Chromatic checked as desired in the new Default Preset. Anboiut to test but believe it will accomplish what I want. For this camera!

Now, this brings up a new question:

No matter what I try, I cannot get my iPhone in the drop down box for cameras in the Preset dialogs. What's the trick? I do have a folder with both jpg and HEIC. I have not added an Apple Raw just yet. Would that do it?

And indeed, importing an Apple Raw image brought up the option to add Camera to import preferences and revealed an Apple Raw Pro devleop profile. So, a lot of hoops, but I think I arrived with my imports :)

Just to confirm, using Profule AUTO in Camera brings Camera Standard to EVERY imported image from my Canon R3. I do not like that as a default, so changed to Adobe Color, which I am not fond of, but made the best sense. I really do believe that opening in Digital Photo Professional, saving as a TIFF and importing to LRc produces mucch better images. Wish that were not the case. And although I realize the develop profile is a starting point, I do not believe I could get identical end images when starting to develop from different profiles. The starting point makes a difference in the end image.
