Took 24 photos today and tried to import them into LR via a card reader unfortunately 'import' wasn't highlighted but tried to work around it without success. Put the card back into the camera and all photos not there - 'folder empty'. Tried various methods to try and find the photographs in LR, when I opened C drive, then users, there they were all checked together with over 13000 other photos. I've highlighted the 24 photos but still cannot get them into my catalogue. Considering that there is nothing left on the memory card, I am dubious to attempt anything else until someone can please show me how to get the 24 photos into my catalogue.

That screenshot shows that although you have selected 25 photos, you have not yet "checked" any of them for import (i.e. click the small box top left of any one of the selected thumbnails). Once that is done, the "Import" button should become active.

Matter solved, thank you. Two things I cannot understand, when I inserted the card reader why didn't the import button activate; the screen shot I sent is not my usual way of importing, also, I'm concerned that all of the images were wiped clean off the memory card through no help of mine.

Did you have "Move" specified at the top of the window when you did the import?

LrC Import Dialog will not delete images from a memory card, if it detects it as a memory card. However, "some" card readers present themselves to LrC as regular disk drives and if that was your case and you used the "Move" option in the Import dialog, the images would be deleted from the card as they were "moved" to the destination folder. I have never heard of the import dialog deleting images from a memory card that is presented to it as a memory card.

The import button on the import dialog will not be active unless one or more images have check marks (regardless of how many are highlighted)

If you still think the import dialog is the culprit, take some more photos and try again. This time take a screen shot of the entire import dialog box showing your issue.

I'm certain I had Copy specified. When I inserted the card reader, no images appeared - hence non to check.

If that's indeed what happened, then in order for Adobe to pay attention it should be repeatable and documented. So, it would be good for you to take some more photos using that same camera and memory card and repeat the process, taking screen shots along the way. If the same thing happens, we'd be happy to take a look at your screen shots to see if we see anything amiss and if we can't then you have the needed documentation to report it as a bug to Adobe.

Lightroom Classic 13.1 was launched almost 2 months ago. Thousands, perhaps more than a million, photographers import images into Lightroom Classic every day. If there was a bug like this, we would be well aware of that by now.

I followed your advice and the new images taken have imported into LR without issue, and the images are still on the memory card, as well. I don't know why the images didn't appear atomically yesterday but we will see what happens in the future.

Thank you for your help

You can active or deactivate that. I don’t like LrC opening when I insert a card. I pre-cull my files using my cameras native software, drag the files that are left to into a folder on the desktop and drag that folder into LrC for import. After the previews are built I drag that folder to the external drive where I store my files.
