I am trying to separate out video files to a different folder within windows explorer but with the same year and date structure as I have within my existing folders in explorer and lightroom.

I hoped to be able to use Lightroom import for this? I’ve selected the hard drive I want to import from. It can identify all of the video files but many remain greyed out. I’ve tried the move function, I’ve ticked to say duplicates are ok but they still can’t be selected?
I hoped that an import to a different hard drive location might be a quick way around it rather than manually going to each folder to move the videos. Any ideas? Many thanks.

If you have already imported the images including videos, you do not want to import them again. In a folder in Library it is passible to use the filter bar and select the video images only using the attribute filter. Thes then can be selected as a group and using "drag 'n drop" dragged to a new location in the filter panel.

Thank you for the suggestion but dragging and dropping like that won't maintain the folder structure. I do want to be able to follow the import process as if I hadn't already done it once. I have them all sorted by year folders and then folders by date. The standard import process would allow me to achieve this if I could select them.

Have you already imported these video files? If not, then you are free to use Windows Explorer to re-arrange the folder organization of these files prior to Lightroom import. It's not clear from your original post. If you have already imported those video files, then use Lightroom to move the video files to a different folder structure, so that Lightroom does not lose track of these files.

But do you really need separate folder structures, if you have a date-based folder structure?

If you want to maintain the folder structure, you really want a duplicate folder structure for videos only. You can create this manually in the folder panel and use the “drag ‘n Drop” to put the videos in the duplicated folder structure.

There is really nothing working with leavening videos and photos intermingled. You should not be trying to organize by folder anyway. Organization is accomplished by using Collections and Smart Collections. This is what the collection panel is for.
