ran into a OneDrive issue today in Windows 11. When I tried to import some images from an SD card, they got directed to OneDrive, and not the usual Pictures folder on my laptop. I can't pinpoint when this changed, or why, but I'm thinking that the last Lightroom upgrade was the culprit.

Note that I do not use OneDrive or Adobe's cloud for photos because they are too slow and frankly I don't trust any cloud storage for that matter to prevent my work from being poached, regardless of copyright. Also, I do use OneDrive for connectivity with my phone and tablet & Windows.

That resulted in the creation of a second folder for the year and date with today's import in it. I forced a path using the lower right of the import dialog screen, but I need to find a way to permanently stop Lightroom from pointing to OneDrive when importing. Any suggestions? Will the path I forced for imports be there next time, or will LrC decide like it once did to send the files to OneDrive again?

If you use the Copy option on the Top panel… you can select any folder you wish.

Sometimes it might be easier to create the folder you wish to store your images and then navigate to that folder inside LrC.

It is worth spending time exploring all the options within the right hand side Import panel.

Windows usually places the "Pictures" folder within the OneDrive folder and that is the one that becomes the default for any app that has Windows place images in the default folder for imagtes. Unfortuantly the default location for the LrC catalog is in this same Pictures folder. Use File Explorer to look at your "C" drrive. Use view optiuons to have it show hidden and system files. Then navigate to C: -> Users -> .<Your Name>" And see if the "Pictures" folder is there or is under OneDrive (or both).

Do not let your LrC catalog be under OneDrive. If, as you say, you don't want to use OneDrive (good choice) there are plenty of articles on the web on how to purge OneDrive from your system. It's easier to do (but still awkward) when you first set up a new computer or create a new user account on your computer but can be done for existing accounts. Don't skip the parts about getting stuff that may already be in OneDrive back to your local drives before you chuck OneDrive.

I kind of like OneDrive... for everything but LrC. A few years back after much frustration with OneDrive and Microsoft continually claiming how much simpler life will be with it but failing to explain the concept in plain English, I worked it out. It requires two drives to run both OneDrive and LrC. Leave the LrC software on C:. By default OneDrive controls C:. Ensure that OneDrive is not controlling D:. Put your catalog and all your image files on D:. Tell LrC where they are. Done!

That works. It would also work to create a folder for the LrC catalog that is on the C drive but not under the OneDrive Folder.

AFAICT, on my Windows 10 machine, OneDrive does not control all of C:. It appears that it takes control of most of the "Library" folders (Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos), but the Downloads Library folder and other folders, for example C:\Program Files and C:\Users/<username>, are not controlled by OneDrive. I specifically use C:\ Users\<username>\Documents for stuff that I don't want Microsoft (or anyone else) to be able to see, and my Downloads folder contains way more stuff than would fit in my 5GB of OneDrive space. I have also created other folders under C:\Users/<username> for stuff that is so big that it would use up my OneDrive quota.
