Import catalog with pics in another place?

I'm just back from vacation. While away I had the use of a computer and used lightroom on the pics I took. I backed up pics and exported catalogs of the pics, day by day, to DVDs. Of course the paths that I used on vacation are not the same as the paths where I put photos at home.

Now I'm home and I want to import all that work I did with lightroom. :cry:
Importing the catalog does not allow me to change where the pics are.
And importing the pics, imports them with no meta data. :shock:

I've got hours of time in on the settings for these pictures. :cry:

Anybody know how to put my pics and catalog data back together?

NEF files are on the HD, all in one sub-folder.
LRCAT file is imported and all photos are gray.
In Library mode, thumbnail view.
Look on left side and expand the FOLDERS list.
Right click on the red line for your folder and choose option to Find missing folder or some such option. :roll:

The photos are matched with the LRCAT settings and all is well.

on a similar note, I am trying to import images I worked on in Lightroom 1 previously into a Beta Version catalog - I had all meta data saved, and the captions and ratings do show up in my current catalog - but none of the processing adjustments do. Do those not travel between versions, or am I overlooking something here?

you will need to elborate a little further and give us an idea what system etc you use is (aka:signature)

Whether develop settings from 1.' to 2.' are honored i'm unsure. I don't think so.

Don't trust the beta version to retain anything with any consistancy. It's a beta, treat it as such and experiment rather than use it for 'real work'

I believe that the pertinent settings are imported from V1.x to V2. I think you'll have to have previously forced a metadata write to either XMP sidecars or embedded XMP depending upon file type. At this point a catalog import from V1 to V2 is not functional, but of course it's promised (and probably mandatory) for later/final versions of V2.

I just tested it, and I got all the 'data' metadata, as well as the develop adjustments from a 1.x .CR2/.XMP sidecar pair into LR2 Beta. These shots were about almost a year old, so they're also from an older version of LR1.

kheinemann, when you say you "had all metadata saved", how did you this exactly?
