Hello Gang,

I am very new to lightroom. I am using Lightroom 2. I wanted to find out if there is a quick way I can manage my Raw images.

First I would like to process the image, expect to jpg. For image less then or equal to three stars, I would like to delete the Raw file, and just keep the jpg.

Any ideas on how I can achieve this.

Welcome to the forum. No doubt the moderators will ask that you fill out your signature!

The big question I have is why on earth would you want to get rid of your Raw files? They are your negatives, your gold dust, the most important images of all.
From these you can create endless JPGs, reinterpret the image and generally go back in years to come and reprocess it with Lightroom 5!

JPGs are 8 bit images with your edits baked in, are not an 'archival format' and have lossy compression artifacts. Raw files are high bit depth, have no edits baked in, and the compression is lossless.

Your aim should really be to keep the Raws and when you need JPGs export them on demand, or keep the JPGs elsewhere for reuse.

So you're thinking you want to keep your raw files for 4* and 5*, and just keep jpegs of up to 3*?

Yeah, I'd agree with Richard, I personally wouldn't go throwing raw files away, however if you do want to do so, then you'd process the files in the Develop module, and then select them in Grid view and go to Export to create jpegs. Once you've done that, you might want to import those jpegs into your catalog (there's a checkbox in the export dialog to do it automatically.) Then you can use the Filter bar to show just 3* or less, and the Metadata filter bar to select the raw files, and press Delete to get rid of them.

You could also create a smart collection with a file type of raw and rating of less than 3 stars. All your raw files with less than 3 stars would be added to it automatically and you can delete them easily. I'm in agreement with Richard and Victoria about deleting raw files though.

Thank you for your replies. My baby is 3 months old and I already have over 2'''+ pictures. I just cant keep all the raw images on my hard drive.

I will keep the good photos in RAW 4* and 5*.

I will give it a try Victoria has suggested.

Aaaaaw, congratulations on the new baby! Time to factor extra hard drive costs into the baby budget!

Keep them somewhere else. Burn them to DVD or to CD, or get more hard drive space. There are other solutions; you don't have to delete them.
