With the super-ease of making changes in LR, it would be useful to have a lock feature. With an image locked, no changes would be allowed without some sort of permission-granting cycle.

This would also make the concept of a Master image a bit more meaningful.

The lock concept could possibly applied to Collections as well.

Believe it or not this has been suggested before. I thin even back durung last year's Betas.

Especially handy for a Pro letting a client Look.

Another way is to export a Client specific Catalog. And then show from Virtual Copies, maybe. Not much they can ruin that way.

Image lock use

Heh - I'm not worried about clients or others munging the files -- I want to keep MY ham-fists off them! :)

I only do stock and fine art work, so I'm the only one looking at and working on the master images. With the ease of making modifications in LR, once I get something I consider 'done', I'd like to be able to click a switch and just lock that copy/virtual image/whatever-it-is and not allow further mods to it.

Most operating systems provide this feature for files -- it should take little more than a bit (and the logic to manage it) to mark something as locked/unlocked.

And I, of course agree.
It bothers me a lot when, after many weeks sorting and rating my images, with all pictures selected, I hit by mistake the number "1" key and...
All pictures are suddenly rated one star. Then silliness takes hold of my being, and instead of hitting Comd+Z I haphazardly hit desselect.
Tragedy.
5 thousand images rated one star and many weeks again to rate them all.
Wouldn't be easier if I could *lock my ratings* after being done with rating that particular group of images?
And, BTW, collections are not the answer; sometimes I *need to find* all 4 star rated pictures in "All Pictures" to pick some for my portfolio...
:cry::cry::cry:

Locking is fine, but I'd also like some way just to tell if an image is "finished". When you apply a develop preset on import they all have the little +/- sign on them. If you have to stop half way through a folder I have to write down which one I stopped on.

I love that idea! Gets my vote too!

I also think its a good idea and have posted a request.......though mine was slightly different in that I wanted a lock to stop accidentally deleting an image (I found it difficult to believe that Lightroom has evolved so brilliantly but has never included this feature).

Considering nearly all? cameras have this feature to prevent the odd picture being deleted by mistake in-the-heat-of-the-battle.

P.s I never use the lock system in my camera...........but I know what its like to delete a favourite image in Lightroom by NOT releasing it was selected (out-of-view in the grid mode) when I hit delete on other images. I only relised a year later and recovery was not an option :'(

P.p.s I now use back-ups and can't recommend them enough.
