If you oculd only get one LR 2 book.

If you could only get one LR 2 book.

Ok so heres the catch with all the great books out there on LR 2 if you could only get one of them what would it be?

The reason im asking is i will be taking a trip in the near future adn want somthign to readon the airplane andi figure i really want to leanr this program better so what better time to spend deep into a book. Plus with the expense of some of these books i cant buy them all at once. I will be buying this from barnes and nobles as i have a discount card thru them good for at least 1'% off.

So tell me the book, the author, and why that book should be THE book i take with me.

I highly recommend- The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 book- the complete guide for photographers by Martin Evening. The author is very thorough. The book is about 6'' pages long. I am about 1/3 the way through. I have read the Evening's first book twice.

My first book w/LR 1.x was Scott Kelby's. I hated his poor attempts at humor, but I liked his cookbook style approach tol earning how to use the program. If you are reasonably comfortable with the program, then I would seriously consider Victoria's book. Her posts here contain great advice, and they are well written and easy to understand. Its the next book on my purchase list.

Ok, silly question - how long's the flight? If you don't want anything quite as thick and meaty as Martin's, I'd also throw Seth Resnick's into the mix as an alternative.

its not just the flight i am looking to eventually build the collection but i like to try nad start with what has worked the best for most people. I will admit that i really likes scotts training vids on lightroom and they have really helped me. I just know i need alot more help than that can provide.

Victoria, can i purchase the book directly thru you or do i need to ocnsult a local retailer for this? I mean i would rather hand the moeny directly to the author s oi know they get it.

Jim - 397 in the PDF, 426 in the paperback (simply because the shortcuts are separate sheets for the PDF). Buy from my website or Amazon/B&N etc. There's sample questions on my website that you can download free, so you can see whether the style will suit you.

If I want to get a reasonably technical answer to a LR2 question, I'll pick up Evening's book, but when I want to remember, how do I make that work again? I always open Kelby's LR2 book. It's quick, concise, solid protein...
I don't understand all the concern about his humor, I mean, so what.....?
you never heard of skipping past...? Nobody's twisting arms to read.....
I reference Kelby 99.5%, Evening '.5%.....I'm new to this forum and have just seen Victoria's book and it is my next purchase, sounds like she fills a gap....
I think Kelby's book is easier reading while traveling, I've done what you're talking about with both books, and it was always easier to pick up Kelby's again after putting it down....

Not a book, but being a visual person I really like the Luminous Landscape (www.luminous-landscape.com) Lightroom Tutorial video series. It covers everything about Lightroom and is very easy to understand. You need access to a laptop when traveling to view it...

Haven't read Victoria's work, but Martin Evening's book is one of the best computer-oriented books I've ever used. Every question I've had is answered there, except why LR2 is so slow.

I know you said one book but, after you finish Victoria's excellent tome you might also take a look at Mikkel Aaland's Lightroom 2 Adventure. It's quite comprehensive and several photographers from the adventure share their insights as well.

oh this is far from out of my mine, and the only reason i said one was i like to start with the best and then aquire others later on. please keep the ideas comming
