Identity plate - Error B4

I have searched for this problem, but not found any posts - so here goes. I have several identity plates, mostly jpgs. I tried to use one of them bt even though it shows in the identity plate dialog box, the upper left corner shows "Error-B4"(backwards). I had a similar one which would show correctly, but it was too big - I resized and resaved, but when I tried to import the resized version I got the same errror. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Haven't heard of that one before! Can you upload it somewhere so we can see if we can replicate the problem? Perhaps we can figure out what's going on.

The only time I've encountered that B4 error was with absolutely monstrous raw files from Phase1 backs, back in the 1.x days. Usually that backwards text is tied up in some sort of 'out of memory' phenomenon (rightly, or wrongly). How big are the files involved? Is the identity plate for Lr's catalog logo/branding interface, or for a watermark type of output? If the former, I believe there are some pixel dimension limits.

Brad - the file in question is 18.5 KB - a jpg of 168X5' Px. I have the same file in 246X73 @ 2'.9 KB, which doesn't give me the error, but it is too high to fit in the ID area.

Victoria - upload the jpg identity plate file itself?

Brad - Sorry - the logo is for the LR interface - upper left corner.

Hmmm, well that seems well within the limits. Yes, if you have a copy of the jpg that you're willing to share, you can just attach it to a post. Click the 'Preview' mode for responses, and that will open some more options. One of which, lower left is to attach a file.

Yep, that's what I had in mind. If we try it on our machines too, we may be able to at least rule out a problem with the file itself.

OK - Here's something really strange - when I tried the same thing on my laptop (same file, same catalog, but Vista instead of W7), it worked - No error message. I may be OK now that the file is imported.

I'm stumped, however, why it works on one but not the other.

i have the same problem...

LR 2.6, Win7 64bit - and this strange "Error B4" backwards.

has someone an idea?
i am going crazy! i want to upload my web-gallery - there is the same problem. at the end of the uplaod an error appears and then i can see the "Error B4" message also in the web-panel :-(

SOLVED!

i contacted adobe. it is a Win7 problem.
here is the solution:

delete Preferences.agprefs in the Users/[username]/AppData
/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder.
(perhabs the folder AppData is hidden)

of course, after this step all prefernces are deleted. but it just takes a minute (for me) to have LR like before - with a working identity plate ;)

if you are not sure about your prefernces you should not delete the file, just rename it and give it a try!

Great news. Amazing how often trashing the preferences solves weirdness.
