perhaps this has already been covered but I couldn't find it.

Using Lightroom v1.4.1 , Mac OS X 1'.5.2

Current import workflow:

1. Download from camera media to folder on desktop.

2.) Use Image Ingester / Image Verifier to, among other things, do the raw to DNG conversion.

3.) Import into a Lightroom catalog:

Import from download folder and there I rename the files from their original camera generated name to "Vener_YYYYMMDD-####" and copy them from the photo download folder to locations on two different HDDs.

Question:

Once in Lightroom is there a way to copy the new file name to the title field? And to do for all of the contents of that folder? Is it possible to do this atthe Image Ingester stage?

There's no way to do that in Lightroom, that I know of, but it looks like ImageIngester can probably do it for you. Marc's a member here, so hopefully he'll drop by with the information you need.

Thank you and that will be great for next time, like tomorrow, but in the mean time I am wondering if there is a way to do this for existing work via Bridge 2.'.

There used to be a utility or a script for doing this in PsCS2 but that seems to ahve disappeared in PsCS3. Or am I (likely) missing something?

It can certainly be scripted in Bridge/Photoshop Ellis. How's your javascript?! ;)

If you google it, you may find an existing script which will do it for you.

If the file gets its new and final name in ImageIngesterPro, there's a macro for that new name which you can use to put it into the metadata--title field if you like. LR will pick it up from there (bound into DNG or loose as a sidecar XMP).

But, if it got renamed in LR, IIP is out of the picture (!) by then.

If I've misunderstood the question, let me know.

If LR had the capability of using tokens in metadata presets, it would address this issue and others. For example, "original filename" is available in the metadata but you can only get to its token in the Filename Template Editor. If that token were available in metadata presets, it could be used to easily populate the Title field. Other useful examples would include exif tokens, date/time tokens, and others. Obviously, some thought would have to go into this implementation to handle recursiveness issues, etc., but this would give us a lot of flexibility during import and metadata assignments.
