I want to load only jpgs....

Hi,
I am shooting in RAW plus JPG (because the memory on the laptop I travel with is limited and I want to be able to review my photos daily).
I have LR import set to treat RAW and JPG as 2 separate files.
Is there any way to set something so that I can easily load only the JPGs without having to go through a couple of hundred images and physically check every other box?

Stephanie, Welcome to the Forums.

Off the top of my head, I would use the 'Choose Files' option in the first Import dialog, which would open a file browser to point to the files to import. The layout of this is OS dependent (you don't say Win or Mac). But you should be able to navigate to the folder containing the mixed raws and JPGs. In Windows at least, if you select the 'details' view in the file browser, you can sort by file type. Do that, which will lump all the JPGs together, multi-select with click, shift-click, and then click 'Choose' to move on to the Import details dialog.

Hi Brad,
I'm not new to the forum but since I can't seem to remember the name I registered with on my home machine, I reregistered to get access to the forum :-)
At any rate, my primary computer is a Mac but the laptop I travel with is a PC with Vista OS.
I do not seem to see what you are talking about as I try to load images. Could you describe what I should see again and be as specific as possible. Thanks

Not new to forums...just reregistered when I couldn't remember how I'm registered on my home machine ;-)
I use Mac at home and laptop is PC/Vista. I can't seem to follow what you are saying. Can you be more specific about what I'll see and where I'll see it? When I put a card in my card reader and the import window opens, I see all the photos (JPG and RAW) but I see no way to get to the file browser while that import window is open.....

stillwater, OK, try this, insert your card, when the full import dialog opens, just cancel out. Then click the Import button lower right in Library. You should see the following preliminary dialog, select 'Choose Files', and navigate to the flash card, as if it were a disk drive.

Ah.... Let me try that, Brad. Sounds easier than anything else. Don't know image ingester and want something quick and elegantly easy :-)

I meant to add to my post that Image Ingester was also a very good choice, as Ken suggested. Many people swear by it, and the author is a respected member here. It's more horsepower than I need, so I haven't spent much time with it, and don't know the price or demo arrangements
